Clarence W. Schawk
Chairman of the Board
Clarence W. Schawk’s 50-year career in the prepress
industry is predated by his military service as a U.S. Marine in
the South Pacific during World War II.
Upon returning to U.S. shores after the war ended,
Mr. Schawk embarked on his career, learning the trade from the ground
up by working for several local graphic arts companies in different
capacities. Eight years later, taking his experience, discipline
and business ideas with him, Clarence W. Schawk established his
own business in 1953 under the name Schawk Litho Plate.
From this single location in Chicago, the company
began manufacturing printing plates. Over the years, the company
earned a strong reputation as a quality provider and business grew.
In 1965, Mr. Schawk set the company’s aggressive
acquisition strategy in motion by acquiring several established
prepress firms in the Midwest. And by the mid-1980s, after completing
numerous mergers and acquisitions, Schawk, Inc. was established
as a corporate name. In 1995, the company began trading on the NYSE
under the symbol SGK. Clarence W. Schawk began serving Schawk, Inc.
as Chairman in September, 1992. |
